Think outside the box by looking back in...

Soma Corp and Pretty Simple team up to present the fourth installment of the Local Extracts series, this time incorporating Soma Corp's 4th Birthday celebrations and welcoming the long-awaited return of one of the most talented techno DJs Australia has every produced - Southern Outpost's Patrick HAF aka 'The Sentinel'. Ex-Sydney, now relocated to San Francisco, Producer/DJ Patrick HAF has long been a perennial favourite with fans of cutting-edge, truly underground dance music. In the last 12 years he has achieved near cult status in this country supporting juggernauts such as Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Derrick May, Claude Young, Rolando, Mike Grant and many more in both Sydney and Melbourne as well as bringing Honkytonks to its knees several times over. In 1998 Patrick co-founded a 100% independent record label, Southern Outpost, which has worldwide distribution via Clone Records and has received critical acclaim from the likes of Dave Clarke, Rolando, UR's 'Mad' Mike Banks and Aux 88, and even had a track distributed by Underground Resistance's Submerge label! It's impossible to pigeonhole the music Patrick plays. Well renowned for his dark electro sounds, he's also made a name for himself as one of the best Detroit techno DJs in Australia, mixes crazy deep house sets with equal finesse... and more often combining all three! Back on home turf for 2 weeks only it is with great pleasure we mark the return of 'The Sentinel' for an exclusive Melbourne performance.

Southern Outpost was formed in October 1998 by Patrick Wacher, Philip Chan & Daniel Horth, 3 DJ's active in Sydney's underground electro/techno scene. The name Southern Outpost came about accidently... whilst Patrick was visiting the old Submerge building at 2030 Grand River Ave, he signed the wall (as all visitors were asked to do) with a personal message to the Submerge crew. It was signed "much respect from the southern outpost". On seeing this, Mad Mike Banks said, "That would be a great name for your record label".... that's where it started.

After returning from Detroit and meeting his major musical influences, Patrick was inspired to produce and release music with talented local musicians Sofie Loizou (shapeShiftr, Miss Memory) and Ryan O'Loughlin (Data). SO-001 Setting The Agenda was born.

Southern Outpost is based in Sydney, Australia.
Pressed & distributed via Submerge and Clone

"It’s been a while since I dusted off both turntables (well over a year now) and it was time to get something new together as I’ve bought a lot of records recently. Done in one take Saturday morning in San Francisco. Although the records in this mix aren’t all new, there is enough to warrant some mixage. If you like your techno deep, dubby and spacious, ala Chain Reaction, Echospace/Deepchord, Rhythm & Sound etc, this mix is for you…"

"Something must be in the air here in San Francisco, maybe it’s the impending winter, but I haven’t been this productive doing mixes for many years! To be honest, I was asked to do this mix as a promo for my upcoming gig in Melbourne (22nd December), so the pressure was on to do this… I had already put it off a few weeks as I wasn’t feeling it, running out of time, *insert other lame excuses here*… so this weekend it was going to happen. And happen it did. It came together in one take, two turntables, one mixer recording directly to Ableton. No edits, mistakes and all."
