I agree. Sometimes musicians try to achieve perfect sound, it´s often the arrangement, sometimes the production which changes the musical flair and aim to sound smooth, really smooth. It has not to be rusty, perfectly unperfect, enforcingly anti-studio-production, but the musician should have the say in things music and predominantly when it comes to recording.
But Mary J. Blige tries to achieve especially this, apparently without the wished results(?).
